The Design Process
Creating the Garden of your Dreams…
Working with Hillside Gardens to create the Garden Area or Outdoor Space of your Dreams is a multi-step process. Through meetings and consultations, our professionals will develop a plan that will please both your eyes and your budget. We will guide you through our most common stages of a project. Should you have additional questions or are ready to get started, please contact us today.
The most important step in the process of creating the Garden of your Dreams, is the Initial Consultation. This is the time when we discover your requirements and dreams, note unique, existing plants and features (some good…some not so ), and begin to form an idea of how to address those characteristics within the thorough Design Analysis.
We assess views in and out of your property and consider drainage, people and air circulation. This may require subsequent visits for us to check site conditions, to see if any re-contouring is required or desirable, any placement of major, large trees, requirements of special structures, lighting, etc. At this time we will also inventory your existing plantings.
We note any architectural details in your home, the area surrounding your property or your neighboring development style. We don’t always feel that we should inject something into your landscape to “make a statement”, or that may not blend into your area.
A preliminary analysis, based on our discussions may be prepared, at your request, that you might see how the thoughts you expressed to us, the existing features, & our interpretations, are fitting together.
This is the plan from which we will develop your Master Plan, or with just minimal changes. We listen carefully and assess everything, early on, to save Design time and not complicate the process. We respect your budget restraints, if any (…and when is that NOT a consideration?) as to the investment you wish to apply to your Outdoor Living Area.
At this point, we will review the plans, to date, and can adjust the plan with any changes required.
A Plant List & Specification sheet is compiled, and once the client has reviewed the details, and accepted all components, a Contract is prepared, utilities notified and since we are a Design/Build firm, we take it from there.
The Art of the Design is in the details and they do make or break even the most artistic design. Changes are inevitable. Most changes are decided on-site to ensure we can usually accomplish them within the scope of the Contract.
